The

1st Troop Loyal Suffolk Yeomanry was a cavalry unit that formed the basis for the later Suffolk Yeomanry. It was formally revived in 1831 after a period of inactivity and was trained as lancers before being amalgamated with another troop to form the West Suffolk Regiment of Yeomanry Cavalry in 1868. The “Loyal Suffolk Yeomanry” was formed in 1794 as a response to the French Revolution. Disbandment and Revival: After being reduced and eventually formally disbanded in 1827 due to government funding cuts, it was revived in 1831 as the Suffolk (1st Loyal Suffolk) Troop of Yeomanry Cavalry. Transformation: In 1868, it merged with another troop to become the West Suffolk Regiment of Yeomanry Cavalry. It was converted to Hussars in 1872 and later adopted the title “Loyal Suffolk Hussars” in 1883. Later Service: During the First World War, the unit was dismounted and fought at Gallipoli before being converted to an infantry battalion, the 15th (Suffolk Yeomanry) Battalion, Suffolk Regiment.
