This plate was made to celebrate the marriage of Cottam Birdsall, a cooper aged 21, to his bride Elizabeth Danson aged 20, both residents of Liverpool. On the 14th January 1765, the young groom and the bride’s mother signed a marriage bond, and the couple were married the following day at Our Lady and St Nicholas Parish Church in Liverpool.
