I am not quite sure the purpose of the pocket at the back of this type of figure, possibly for flowers or having another use like to hold some type of advertisement for use in either a butchers or dairy. When I bought it somme previous owner had restored the back with a fake tree stump which I had my restorer remove. Here is how it looked before, care of a blog by Myna Schkolne Link there is also a picture of it from Vol 3 of Myrna’s book of Staffordshire Figures in my gallery.
