The Orange Order is a Protestant fraternity founded in 1795 to uphold the principles of the Protestant Reformation and the 1688 “Glorious Revolution” led by William of Orange, who became King William III. The Order is named after him and celebrates his victories, particularly the Battle of the Boyne on July 12, 1690, which secured Protestant ascendancy in Ireland.
