Pearlware pottery jug decorated with Prince Regent and Lady hertford ‘A VISIT TO CARLTON HOUSE’, circa 1810

The Prince Regent (later George IV) and his long-time mistress, Lady Hertford, frequented Carlton House together during the height of their relationship, which spanned roughly 1807 to 1819. While the most famous event held there was the Grand Fete of 1811, Lady Hertford acted as a constant, dominating presence in the Prince’s social life, accompanying him to dinners, entertainments, and private gatherings at his London residence.
