Russian enamel beaker “The Cup of Sorrows” commemorating the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II, circa 1896

This beaker was made to commemorate the Russian Imperial Coronation of Tsar Nicholas II. It has been called “The Cup of Sorrows” as tragedy struck when the crowd celebrating and receiving gifts of these beakers surged and panicked, leading to injuries and nearly 1400 deaths, known as the Khodynka Tragedy.
