Stereotypically, men in the macaroni subculture dressed, spoke, and behaved in an unusually sentimental and androgynous manner.\u00a0The term \u201cmacaroni\u201d pejoratively referred to a man who \u201cexceeded the ordinary bounds of fashion\u201d in terms of high-end clothing, fastidious eating, and gambling.
