Lieutenant-General\u00a0Robert Monckton<\/b>\u00a0(24 June 1726 \u2013 21 May 1782) was a\u00a0British Army\u00a0officer, politician and colonial administrator. He had a distinguished military and political career, being second in command to General\u00a0James Wolfe\u00a0at the\u00a0Battle of the Plains of Abraham\u00a0and later being named the\u00a0governor of New York. Monckton is also remembered for his role in a number of other important events in the\u00a0French and Indian War, most notably the capture of\u00a0Fort Beaus\u00e9jour\u00a0in Acadia, and the island of\u00a0Martinique\u00a0in the West Indies, as well as for his role in the\u00a0expulsion of the Acadians\u00a0from\u00a0Nova Scotia\u00a0and\u00a0Acadia<\/p>\n
